The Firesteel is a quality tool that performed better than expected. I bought this on whim since Amazon put it in my “Recommend For You” list and have always wanted to see if these really worked. The short answer is YES! Using the included directions and good tinder, it took just a few seconds to get a fire going.
My son thinks this is very cool and was able to do it after a few tries, but my wife doesn’t see the value in it as “matches are cheap” and it’s hard to convince her that it is needed because I could fall in a river\lake, making matches useless 
Still, this has made it’s way into my backpack along side my matches.
Highly Recommended Swedish Firesteel – Army Model, since it really beats trying to start a fire by rubbing two sticks together.
